Message from Pat Lenz, Chair of the Tenth Anniversary Celebrations Committee

Welcome to the tenth anniversary season of the Grand River Chorus. It is our hope that all who encounter us this year will become part of our celebration of this remarkable milestone. To help you appreciate our journey please look at the history of our chorus (link) and the articles about the rich choral history (link) we have in this community.

Our plan this year is to based on RCA: Recognize, Celebrate and Announce. During this period we plan to re-connect with choristers and Board members who have been a part of our decade of music-making. We will recognize them, as well as those who have supported us, financially and with their volunteer efforts. This is to reflect our gratitude for the significant contribution that each has made to our development. We celebrate our many achievements including the steady growth of our chorus and the increase in the number of concert goers over the years.

We are pleased to announce a full, glorious season of classical choral music to continue to delight our long-term fans and to attract new audience members. Past choristers are warmly invited to re-join us as part of the final concert of this season. To become part of this event please contact Artistic Director Richard Cunningham 519-841-9708 or at ctenor@rogers.com.

And finally, past and present choristers and board members are invited to celebrate together at a dinner right after our final concert on June 14, 2009. To arrange for a ticket please contact us at grandriverchorus@rogers.com. We will be launching a blog where you may follow the many activities we plan for this year of celebration.

Message from David Neumann, President.

We intend to mark the milestone of our tenth season with a year-long celebration. Our Tenth Anniversary Committee, led by Pat Lenz, has planned for a number of events and activities throughout the year. Three highlights are the Season Launch in October, the Tenth Anniversary Gala concert in April, and the dinner following our last concert on June 14th.

The Grand River Chorus, an auditioned, mixed-voice choir founded in Brantford in 1999, now numbering over seventy singers. We once again offer four major concerts, the highlight being the performance in April 2009 of Saul, a major oratorio by George Frideric Handel. It will mark the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the choir’s first public concert – the performance of the Coronation Anthems by Handel and the Mozart Requiem in May 1999.  April 2009, will mark the 250th anniversary of Handel’s last attendance at the performance of one of his own oratorios, and of his death a few days later on April 14, 1759.

We hope that many past members of the chorus will join us throughout the year, but most especially at this final concert and dinner. We invite them to join us on stage to sing some of the pieces. If you have any comments or information about this special year, please e-mail us at grandriverchorus@rogers.com. We welcome your involvement.
